Iowa Sheep Association Annual Meeting

All current members of the Iowa Sheep Industry Association are invited to attend the ISIA Annual Meeting which will be held on Friday, July 29, 2023 at 3:00 pm in the 4H Building at the Clay County Fairgrounds.  The meeting will be following the National Sheep Improvement Program education workshops. This is held in conjunction with the National Sheep Improvement Program Sale and is sponsored by the Iowa Sheep and Wool Promotion Board.

2023 NSIP Educational Workshop Schedule

10:00 a.m.  Genetic Impacts of Feed Efficiency, Camren Maierle, Penn State Extension,

10:45 a.m. The Fecal Egg Count EBV May do More than Just Parasite Resistance, Scott Bowdridge, West Virginia University,

11:30-12:30 Lunch

12:30-3:00 p.m. The afternoon will consist of a series of sessions led by a team of breeding and genetics personnel from University of Nebraska Lincoln including Ron Lewis, Hilal Yazar Gunes, Bob Forbes, Sara Nilson and Artur Oliveira Rocha.

Topics will include:

  • Update on the Sheep GEMS project and data collected to date
  • Evaluating sheep robustness in genetic evaluations
  • Incorporating parasite resistance into a selection index
  • Implementing genomic information into the genetic evaluation
    • Improving accuracy of breeding value estimations
    • Building a reference population for genomic predictions

Friday evening - Join us in the barn for a social hour with lamb chops and snacks provided by the American Polypay Sheep Association.  Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs and refreshments and enjoy the networking and discussion.
